batta batta batta swing batta

well come june in these parts one thing is for sure...it's baseball season! more to the point, t-ball season. when not excited about stanley cup playoffs (what?? hockey in june? c'mon! okay - go canucks go!) we are excited to hit the ball field friday nights and see our little all-stars duke it out for the title. this year we are sending aydan the vetran and coop the rookie to the field. the only downside is that they play at opposite ends of the park so the husband and me are passing ships in the night as we divide our time between the fields - giving each other a high five and handing off media as we trade sides.

the season begun about 3 weeks ago and it started with a bang! this is the first type of team activity for coop and being naturally apprehensive already you can imagine the caution with which he approached his group. with a bit of confusion, the making for some tears (but he cowboyed up) and then it all got sorted, coop was off and swinging. he did actually quite well (got to play first base!) and was excited to return for another go. unfortunately the next week was rained out but he went last friday night and i heard he is now a seasoned vetran - an old pro. celebrated with dairy queen and everything! (i had my little twinkle toes at her dance dress rehearsal.)

rounding the bases - check out his tongue! too cute!!
this was his thumbs up - bless him.
saying hi to me as i was at the other end cheering on aydan.

aydan on the other hand is another story. we first got involved with this league last summer when we knew not a soul and my husband had heard some women talking in english at the local movie theater and pushed me towards them. boy was i happy he did - not only were they a wealth of information for our little community but they have now become some of our closest friends out here. they were our hook up for this league, who were warm and welcoming to us foreigners and where we made some of our other close friends as well.

go green!!

well now after having been in this town for a year, having had a child attend the local school, we were ready for another season. you can imagine how i felt when we got to the field and i heard a chorus of "aydan! aydan! aydan!" - my heart grew three sizes that day. i felt like we had finally arrived, that we were a part of this community. that we belonged here. best feeling ever. and she had the best time playing that night. see you at the ball field friday nights!

t, coop & aydan - all smiles!

Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd;
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don't care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win, it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game.
