little picasso's

In celebration for halloween we had some little artist's over yesterday and look at what they did! Fabulous aren't they? Enough said.

Fool proof sugar cookies
1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cup flour plus one tablespoon
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Add one spoonful of flour, mix and then add egg.

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt and gently add to butter mix.

Once mixed mold into a disk, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerated for 1/2 an hour.

Roll out on to a cool floured surface. Roll to 1/4 inch thick. Dip each cutter slightly into flour before cutting.

8-10 minutes, top with edges golden. Let cool completely before icing.

Icing
1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp hot water

Mix together until desired consistency (may need more sugar or water depending)
Tint **I prefer to use gel colours as they do not add more liquid to the mix. Decorate and allow to set!
